Singapore to Rome-Frantic Antics to Make A Connection

Anyone who has flown between countries will have at least one story about the mad rush between flights! Vicki and I had been cruising along nicely until we landed in Munich and had to connect to our Rome bound flight..Lufhanza graciously allowed us 45 minutes to connect from our incoming to our outgoing flight. -And this is where German precision planning almost came unstuck. You see, our flight from Singapore landed at the opposite end of the airport to our Rome flight. We had to embark on a mini marathon along extended walkways, up and down stairways and elevators lugging our overloaded hand luggage before encountering customs. After this holdup, we continued our breathless charge until we met Helga, the meticulous security guard, who insisted that she not only inspect our bags but then made us switch on cameras and video etc to prove that we were indeed the technological wonders we thought they were, A group of bewildered and bemused Japanese travellers further held matters up when language barriers added to the delay. We rushed on to our designated departure gate to discover it had been changed. Not gate 22, but gate 16!  Following this course correction we frantically rushed onward, as flight time edged ever closer. Then an announcement implored us to 'rush' to gate 16. Rush! that's all we had been doing from the moment we disembarked! Finally, in a state of oxygen deprivation we reached our target and collapsed on board. Who needs such pressure when you're supposedly on a holiday. As we worked hard to regain our composure Vicki and I found ourselves imagining, the elderly and infirm, the families with young children and infants scrambling along the same panic driven pathway we had just completed...
And then it dawned on us- we will probably encounter the same mad scrambled upon our return journey!
